What makes whole resin essential oils better?
Our ancestors have been using plant oils for millennia to heal wounds, cure disease, and foster wellness.
Tribes would harvest secretions from trees, herbs, and shrubs to make medicines, skincare, and even ceremonial essences.
This process was gentle and slow–ensuring all the beneficial properties remained unaltered and the plant unharmed.
It's only recently that modern technology has allowed for more invasive processing and synthetic extraction. Companies use ethanol, methanol, or petroleum-based solvents to strip the oil from the plant fibers. Though this is a much faster, cheaper method, it often leaves behind traces of impurities in the end product– hard pass.
Even steam-distilled processing can be tricky because it often removes the beneficial acids found in the whole resin. Extracting them is sort of like cooking a roast and not using the nutrient-dense bones to make a broth– what a waste!
This is why we choose to use the whole resin form instead of extracted or distilled essential oils.
The only process needed is the removal of the water-soluble gums, leaving us with the oil-soluble base known as oleoresin that contains all the skin-healing benefits.
